Second journalism dean candidate to present April 6
LAWRENCE — Judith Rosenbaum-Andre, associate dean for faculty affairs and administration in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Maine, will be the second finalist in the University of Kansas School of Journalism & Mass Communications dean search.

Her public presentation on her ideas and strategies for the school is set for 2-3 p.m. April 6 in Watson Library 3 West and will be livestreamed. The online passcode is 897632.
Rosenbaum-Andre also serves as chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism as well as a professor of media studies.
Additional finalists will be announced approximately two business days before their respective campus visits. Their presentations are scheduled for the following dates and locations:
- Candidate 3: 2-3 p.m. April 13, Watson Library 3 West
- Candidate 4: 2:15-3:15 p.m. April 16, Capitol Federal Hall, Room 1020

As associate dean, Rosenbaum-Andre focuses on faculty success, establishing mentoring partnerships, and initiating cross-disciplinary research and teaching efforts. As department chair, she has led curricular revisions, helped secure funding for research and classroom activities, managed the department’s internship program, and developed and implemented assessment strategies to enhance student success.
Prior to joining the University of Maine, Rosenbaum-Andre held leadership roles at Albany State University in Georgia, including president of the Faculty Senate and chair of the Institutional Review Board. She also worked as a research facilitator for a $4.3 million National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities-funded project. Rosenbaum-Andre currently serves as head of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s Communication Theory and Methodology division.
Her research centers on understanding the how and why of digital and entertainment media use as well as its impact on individuals and society at large. Rosenbaum-Andre has taught a variety of courses from media studies and persuasive communication, and she is also an active adviser to graduate and undergraduate students.
Rosenbaum-Andre earned her doctorate in mass communications from Radboud University and her master’s degree in mass communications from the University of Nijmegen, both in the Netherlands.
The School of Journalism & Mass Communications Dean search committee includes representatives from faculty, staff, students and alumni and is being led by Stephen Mazza, dean of the School of Law, and Mary Banwart, associate vice provost of Faculty Affairs.
